This
portrait of Harry Potter, done shortly before the release of the 2nd
film of the series, originally had a different background planned, but
I changed it to a more traditional gothic setting midway through. Here,
you can see the original sketch along with the early airbrushed layers
of color, and then further layers of paint and colored pencil added
to the face and hands. After deciding to change the setting, a thick
layer of gesso covered up the previous background. The new wall was
then sketched in, and painted in layers from light to dark. The clothing
and fire were painted in last.


The paper
covering Harry's face in the photo above was used to mask it, in
preparation for spraying an additional layer of paint with an airbrush.
After this was done, further work was made on the background and
Harry's clothes.
